Engineering and Product · London Flexible Remote
SearchPilot is a profitable and growing startup with team members in the UK and US. We are on a mission to prove the value of SEO for the world's biggest websites and we'd like you to join us.
SearchPilot built the first SEO A/B testing platform to come to market, and we are looking to expand our small team of developers to help build the next iteration of our technology.
SEO is Search Engine Optimisation - helping our customers grow their visibility in Google and other search engines. We are making the process of SEO more data-driven and scientific. We are proud to bring real value to the teams and companies using our technology.
SearchPilot was spun out of Distilled (now Brainlabs), a global digital marketing agency with offices in Seattle, New York and London. You can read more about SearchPilot's open roles, mission, vision and values here.
About the Role
We are looking for a UK-based developer with 2-3 years or more experience working with Python and Django.
The role will be focussed on two critical parts of the platform: the client facing web app and the data processing system. The web app enables our customer teams to configure real time transformations to the HTML content of their web pages. The data processing part of the platform collects and processes a large quantity of data from customer analytics platforms on a daily basis. This data is crucial to the platform and feeds into our bespoke machine learning processing that calculates the results of the various tests.
This role will work across both of these code bases. The web app is written in Django (with a React front end) and communicates to various microservices via REST APIs.
The data processing pipeline is written in Python and uses MySQL for storage (currently); the platform pulls data from APIs on a daily basis, as well as processing data from customer exports.
You will work closely with the rest of the engineering team and will have input into technology and infrastructure decisions. The engineering team is a small, but as a growing team. There are currently five developers, and we enjoy supporting and learning from one another. We will help you get up to speed with our codebase and support you in learning any new skills you need to excel at your work.
We have an office in central London but are open to applications from UK-based candidates who wish to work primarily remotely in the UK within reach of occasional travel to London. Once COVID-19 restrictions ease, we will expect remote team members to be in our London office at least once every couple of months.
We believe in the benefits of working remotely, but also value a sense of shared mission and personal community, which benefits from sometimes getting together. If your circumstances don’t perfectly align with this, we are flexible to discussion.
To apply for this role please complete the form below.
We anticipate the interview process will include a short qualification call followed by two remote video interviews with different members of the team. We anticipate asking you to complete a short coding exercise as a prerequisite to the second interview.
We’d love to meet anyone who ticks any of the following - note that you do not need to have deep experience in all of these areas to apply:
· Professional development experience
· Experience with Python, Django
· Previously worked with relational databases
· Experience with a time series database is beneficial
· Exposure to large and complex codebases
· Some exposure to building or consuming REST APIs
· A preference for clean, simple, well tested code
· Comfortable using git
· Enjoys getting things right whilst realising that done is better than perfect
· Enjoys learning new things
· Self-directed and self-motivated
· 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
· Subsidised private healthcare
· Life insurance
· We will match up to 5% of your pension contributions
· A monthly wellness allowance
· A choice of working equipment
· A Kindle with pre-loaded books
· A £600 happiness budget each year so you can buy stuff to make you happier at work such as a new flashy monitor, a new office chair or training
· Company-funded drinks and snacks on Friday afternoons (when we’re in the office!)
SearchPilot spun out of Distilled in early 2020, with the whole team becoming part of the new company. At Distilled, the product was called DistilledODN.
At SearchPilot we are passionate about our team and we want that to be more than just words. We want to continue to build a team of people who can thrive and succeed, as well as feel valued and welcomed at all levels.
As part of that goal, we are trying hard to actively build a diverse team, as we believe diversity is a necessary component to building the strongest company possible. To this end, one of the steps we have taken is committing to an annual report assessing how we are doing on this front - the first report is now available.
